More Canadians are killing themselves than residents of any other euthanasia regime—and for some reason, the government isn’t interested in asking why. From the Vancouver Sun:
In Canada, which has a smaller population than California, physicians or nurse practitioners directly ended the lives of 31,664 people between 2016 and 2021. That compares to just 3,344 in California.
Memorial University bioethicist Daryl Pullman, who is in the faculty of medicine, this month told UBC’s Centre for Applied Ethics that Canadians could learn from the U.S. about safeguards against unnecessary assisted suicides.
One in 33 Canadians who died in 2021 chose euthanasia. The Canadian rate contrasts with just one in 750 deaths via assisted suicide in California, which is the largest of the 10 states that allow it. That amounts to a Canadian euthanasia rate 22 times higher than California’s.
Those of you who read my writings or have heard any of my speeches/presentations know that I believe digital pornography and social media to two of the greatest cultural poisons any generation of young people have ever faced. I am joined in that view, by the way, by many non-Christian, secular experts. Consider this essay by the Jon Haidt, “Why the Mental Health of Liberal Girls Sank First and Fastest,” in which he notes that: “We are a decade into the largest epidemic of adolescent mental illness ever recorded. It’s time we started treating social media like automobiles and firearms.”
