In the New York Times, Ross Douthat has a helpful primer on the contours of the current LGBT culture wars for those who are justifiably confused. Douthat’s column is particularly useful because he is a social conservative writing for a liberal audience, and is thus careful to be persuasive rather than polemical. If you’d like to understand the different responses (Douthat details three) to, for example, Florida’s parental rights bill, give this is a read. It isn’t a long piece.

Imagine being someone who has “transitioned”—taken puberty blockers, gotten a double mastectomy or a castration—and reading this headline in the New York Post: “Trans doctor who helps teens transition says it’s now ‘gone too far’.”

Well, oops, I guess. Sorry about the rest of your life.

In the meantime, it’s important to remember that this orthodoxy is actually enforced. Earlier this month, Quillette published an essay from a nurse being persecuted for…believing in biological sex: “I’m Being Investigated by the British Columbia College of Nurses Because I Believe Biological Sex Is Real.” That’s not The Bee. That’s Canada.
