Governor Ron DeSantis has campaigned on passing protections for children in the womb and signed a six-week abortion ban—while former President Donald Trump campaigns against pro-life state laws:

As European countries increasingly take a sceptical approach to medical intervention in response to gender dysphoria, Sweden bucked the trend this month:

Sweden’s parliament has passed a law lowering the minimum age to legally change gender from 18 to 16 and making it easier to get access to surgical interventions. The law passed with 234 votes in favour and 94 against in Sweden’s 349-seat parliament.

While the Nordic country was the first to introduce legal gender reassignment in 1972, the new proposal, aimed at allowing self-identification and simplifying the procedure, sparked an intense debate in the country. The center-right coalition of the conservative prime minister, Ulf Kristersson, has been split on the issue, with his own Moderates and the Liberals largely supporting the law while the smaller Christian Democrats were against it.
