A Universal employee was fired for refusing to work while “mourning Roe” (and other stories)

A roundup of news and commentary from around the interwebs.

The LGBT movement continues to colonize legacy organizations. Here’s a tweet from the Royal Society, the oldest science academy in the world:

Yeah, there’s no such thing as “non-binary”…you know, scientifically speaking. But whatever.

This is a very interesting development in the Terri Schiavo story, which many of you will remember: “New Podcast Exposes that Michael Schiavo Lied to the Court Regarding Terri’s ‘Wish’ to Die.”

***

This, from Plough Magazine, is very good: “Freedom from Porn Addiction: What can you do to help a friend who is addicted to pornography?

I’m a big fan of legislation like this:

Senate Republicans are looking to pass legislation that would allow mothers to get child support while they are still pregnant, WLBT reports. According to a press release by Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), the Unborn Child Support Act would allow a court to award child support payments while the child is still in the womb and, retroactively, up to the point of conception. The legislation comes nearly a month after the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade. Mississippi’s only abortion provider closed as a result of the ruling.

The progressives are trying yet another tactic to respond to June’s Dobbs decision:

A group of House progressives led by Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Mondaire Jones (D-N.Y.) called on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) to strip the Supreme Court of its abortion jurisdiction.

“We write to urge your support for restricting the Supreme Court’s appellate jurisdiction in the areas of abortion, marriage equality, non-procreative intimacy, and contraception,” the lawmakers wrote in a letter to the congressional leaders. “In doing so, we can ensure that, as Congress takes legislative action to codify each of these fundamental rights, a radical, restless, and newly constituted majority on the Court cannot further undermine the protections we would enact.”

Read the whole thing. Unless they regain their Senate majority (or Joe Manchin buckles), none of this is likely to happen.

Another tragedy unfolding in the UK: “UK’s National Health Service to remove 12-year-old from life support against parents’ wishes.”

Progressives think that in that weird exchange between a Berkeley professor and Senator Josh Hawley—in which she accused him of endangering trans lives for saying that men can’t get pregnant—the professor came out ahead. In the Washington Post, Megan McArdle explains why that is not the case.

***

Rage Against the Machine, in their first concert in years, raged against the Dobbs ruling, calling to “abort the Supreme Court.” Almost every media outlet ignored the fact that they decided to refer to black women as…”Black birth-givers.” I can understand why.

The mainstream media will never, ever give the pro-life movement credit for all the work they’ve done to support women and children. Exhibit A:

***

In the New York Times, an alleged comedienne asks: “Please Laugh About My Abortion With Me.” These are sad, sick people.

The GOP is moving towards a better system of family policy—the sort of thing I discussed with Dr. Charles Camosy and Dr. Brett Salkeld on the Thinking Faith podcast recently. From Axios: “GOP takes a fresh look at paid family leave.” National Review is on board, as well: “On Family Policy, the GOP Is Moving in the Right Direction.”

Yet another de-transitioner is coming out with his story. From the New York Post:

“Coming out of my transition was like leaving the Twilight Zone, but the rest of society is still in it.”

After living nearly a decade of his life as a transgender woman named Brianna, Brian Wagoner ultimately came to realize his transition had been a mistake. In February, the 31-year-old made the decision to detransition back to his biological gender and live once again as a man.

“It was basically like medical professionals cheering on a girl with bulimia for puking up her lunch when her ribs are already poking out,” he said of the estrogen treatment he was put on for years. “There’s a lot of money to be made by doctors here. They see the dollar signs, and in the end, money talks.”

In The Critic, David Mackareth details his ordeal over being fired in the UK for his Christian faith.

A woke employee at Universal Music Group who refused to work while “mourning Roe” says he was fired (surprise, surprise).

Jurisdiction stripping would prevent the Supreme Court from ever reinstating abortion on demand, should Democrats ever manage to pack the court or appoint pro-abortion justices the old-fashioned way. Do these people ever think anything through for more than five seconds? I understand it’s only red meat, but still.
