I wish the episode had started with the idea that Russia had understood that this was a cheap way to degrade Russia, rather than end there. For myself, and I doubt I am alone here, this is about Russia and the US. The US has been working to draw Russia into a conflict, to consolidate Europe under American influence and potentially degrade or exploit the resources of Russia as it has any number of countries ( Iraq, Libya, Aghanistan etc) This is about about the American menace that has not jusy lost its way from its providential founding but is a now not just decadent but pariah. Russia suffered and more died than necessary for hesitating in the face of a relentless aggressor in the 40s, which Putin understands well. I find find the concerns of cohen, mearsheimer, mc govern and hudson compelling.
