As the transgender movement continues to reel from scandal to scandal—the WPATH files revealing that doctors were aware of the dangers of transgender “care” and the UK’s National Health Service banning the prescription of puberty blockers, for example—trans activists are making their case with ever greater detachment from reality. From Andrew Sullivan, “The Transqueers Take The Mask Off”:

It’s telling, it seems to me, that we’ve begun to see a shift in the tactics of critical queer and gender theorists. They are beginning to make actual arguments in the public square, instead of relying on the media, the government, and the courts to impose their ideas by fiat. The two most prominent examples of this are a new cover-story in New York Magazine by Andrea Long Chu, “Freedom of Sex,” and a new book by Judith Butler called Who’s Afraid of Gender? Butler has even gone so far as to write this book in decipherable, if inelegant, English for the first time in her career.

Read the whole thing. If you’re interested in the ideology driving much of what’s going on in our institutions right now, it is worth the read. On that same topic, Mary Harrington is also characteristically brilliant in this chilling piece, “Strip-mining children.”

For those who you who missed the bombshell WPATH files, here’s a good summary of the findings by the National Post: “Leaked discussions reveal doctors’ concerns about treatments for transgender children.” Short version: Doctors knew that “gender-affirming care” was a medical experiment on children, and they signed off on it anyways.

In New York State, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman put forward an executive order banning all trans-identified male athletes from competing in women’s and girl’s sports, triggering a national debate and a rebuke from the New York attorney general, who demanded that Blakeman rescind it. Thus far, he has refused to do so.
