We have an update from Alex Schadenberg of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition on a court battle over assisted suicide:
Katherine’s Sorenson believes that her husband of 48 years, who is approved for (MAiD) euthanasia even though he received conflicting assessments, is not dying, has questionable capacity, and is delusional about his medical condition.
Katherine’s lawyer, Hugh Scher, sought an injunction to prevent the euthanasia death based on an assessment by a physician, an affidavit from a physician who has known her husband for years, and Katherine’s affidavit. These affidavit’s state that her husband is not terminally ill, that he has questionable capacity to decide and he has “delusional” beliefs concerning his medical condition.
Today, the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal decided that:
there is no role for courts in the review of MAiD eligibility assessments. … Parliament considered, and rejected a role for judges in the pre-approval or review of MAiD eligibility assessments. Parliament made clear that the role rests with approved healthcare assessors.

This, from True North News, is unsurprising:
Canada’s fertility rate has hit an all-time low, according to data by Statistics Canada. A report released on Tuesday reveals that Canada’s fertility rate has declined to 1.47 birth per woman, down from 3.94 in 1959.
“Canada’s TFR (Total Fertility Rate) has been below the replacement rate of 2.1 births per women since 1971, meaning that the number of babies being born is not enough for the current population to replace itself,” claims Statistics Canada.
And to think that abortion activists claim we suffer from “overpopulation,” while billboards go up across Vancouver urging people not to have a second child. There is no connection between the justifications of abortion activists and actual reality.

As business owners like Ben Shapiro (Tennessee) and Joe Rogan (Texas) continue to flee California, Governor Gavin Newsom is doing his best to ensure that the trend continues. From The Sacramento Bee:
Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law on Wednesday aimed at compelling public corporations headquartered in California to appoint minority or LGBTQ directors to their boards of directors. It mirrors legislation signed by former Gov. Jerry Brown in 2018 that requires California-based corporations to appoint women to their boards of directors…The new law, Assembly Bill 979, directs corporations to appoint leaders from under-represented communities defined as people who identify as Black, Latino, Native American, Asian American, Pacific Islander, native Hawaiian or native Alaskan. Companies also can comply with the law by appointing directors who self-identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.
The law requires corporations to have at least one director from an under-represented community by the end of 2021. Additionally, corporations with more than four directors, but fewer than nine, would require a minimum of two diverse directorsTop of FormBottom of Form. A corporation with nine or more directors must have at least three directors from an under-represented community by 2022 to comply with the law. Companies that don’t comply with the law could face fines between $100,000 and $300,000, according to Holden’s office. The fines will be imposed by the Secretary of State.
So there you have it, then. The state of California has just given itself the power to tell you who to hire and how your business should be run—all in the name of our new woke religion, diversity.

France’s aggressive secularism continues with a proposed ban on homeschooling. From LifeSiteNews:
French president Emmanuel Macron announced on Friday morning that he intends to outlaw homeschooling for all children except those who have a health condition that would justify staying away from school. He also intends to step up control on private independent schools that receive no public funds, in particular through inspections on the curricula taught there, by more severely implementing a recent law that requires such schools to teach a “common core” defined by a high authority for education.
The new law would come into force in the school year 2021–2022 for all children aged between 3 and 16. It was already under Macron’s presidency that education became compulsory for tots of infant school age. With a comfortable majority at the National Assembly, the ruling La République en Marche party, which Macron led to victory in 2017, is expected to validate the draft law the government will present in accordance with the president’s wishes.
Read the whole thing. The targeting of Christian schools and homeschooling will be coming to every post-Sexual Revolution country in the West in the coming years. Progressives will not leave us in peace, so we must be ready to fight them on this. The education of our children is not an issue where we can compromise.

China’s omnipresent totalitarianism and the way in which it exerts controls over the minds of the people is chilling to see. Just like the Department of Truth in Orwell’s 1984, the Communist regime simply re-writes books it finds inconvenient. From The Christian Post:
A communist textbook that’s being used in Chinese schools falsifies the biblical account found in John 8:3–11. The textbook claims that Jesus murdered the woman who was found in adultery and said He, too, is a sinner.
The textbook, published by the government-run University of Electronic Science and Technology Press, states: “The crowd wanted to stone the woman to death as per their law. But Jesus said, ‘Let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone.’ Hearing this, they slipped away one by one. When the crowd disappeared, Jesus stoned the sinner to death, saying, ‘I too am a sinner. But if the law could only be executed by men without blemish, the law would be dead.’”
