The last few months have brought quite a few pro-life victories right across the United States. Iowa passed a fetal heartbeat abortion ban. South Dakota passed a bill requiring abortionists to tell women that abortion kills a human being—which is an undeniable fact. And last week, Mississippi passed a 15-week ban on abortion 75 to 34, and Governor Phil Bryant says he’ll sign it: “As I have repeatedly said, I want Mississippi to be the safest place in America for an unborn child,” he wrote on Twitter.
Good work is also being done on the federal level. It appears Planned Parenthood is about to lose funding for its repulsive sex-ed programs. The Trump Administration looks set to reject UN attempts to call abortion a “human right.” And of course, the judges being appointed by the Trump Administration are consistently excellent, with some judicial watchers saying that these appointments could help the courts skew right for over a decade or more.
So I don’t want to seem like I’m complaining, but I have to say that I saw red when I saw a CNN exclusive story earlier this month announcing that Planned Parenthood would be targeting 8 states during the 2018 midterms and spending over 20 million dollars to help pro-abortion Democrats win vulnerable Senate seats and governorships. Their targets will include Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. This $20 million came after the $4.5 million Planned Parenthood spent on governor’s races in Virginia and New Jersey last year.
Now, Planned Parenthood has every right to campaign for the politicians they want to put in power. The Susan B. Anthony List knocked on a million doors for Trump leading up to the election, and it is probably no exaggeration to say that the pro-life vote handed Trump the presidency. But yet, despite much rhetoric from the Republicans, Planned Parenthood was again funded in 2018 to the tune of over half a billion dollars. In their latest annual report, they show that they received nearly $544 million in taxpayer funding while simultaneously boosting profits by over $21 million dollars—and performing more than 320,000 abortions.
Every election year, Republicans talk about defunding Planned Parenthood. And with every budget, they refund an organization that is dedicated to defeating them and is mobilizing massively to defeat them. Think about that for a moment: In February, the Republicans handed Planned Parenthood another half a billion dollars. In March, Planned Parenthood announced that they will be spending over $20 million to defeat Republicans. This is the organization that the Republicans cannot find the courage to take on.
This is not only spinelessness—this is suicidal spinelessness and political stupidity in the face of an organization has been caught blood-red-handed selling baby body parts and breaking the law in every other way. If the Republicans can’t find the guts to defund Planned Parenthood because it destroys children, perhaps they will find the guts when they realize that Planned Parenthood plans to spend the next two years destroying Republican careers.
