In the good news category, from the UK’s Christian Concern:
A judge has overturned the conviction of a Christian street preacher who was arrested and reported to Prevent for ‘misgendering’ a member of the public. Supported by the Christian Legal Centre, Dave McConnell, 42, from Wakefield, was appealing a conviction today at Leeds Crown Court after he was arrested under section 4A of the Public Order Act 1986 for ‘insulting’ a member of the public in Leeds City Centre on 8 June 2021.
This is a particularly encouraging update in the context of the UK’s broader pushback against the trans movement, which includes the NHS’s about-turn on “gender affirmation,” the closure of the Tavistock clinic, and the prime minister finally—finally!—saying, directly into a microphone, that a woman is an “adult human female.” That shouldn’t be encouraging, but it is.

I disagree with the premise of this title from Five-Thirty-Eight, but it has some good news nonetheless: “Some GOP Legislators Are Trying To Show They’re Pro-Life, Not Just Anti-Abortion.” I would posit that pro-life is anti-abortion, not a commitment to a specific political agenda for how to deal with the demand side of abortion—but that said, I’m very supportive of the sorts of policies profiled in this column, which is why I partnered with a number of other pro-lifers to author a statement on a post-Roe America (it was profiled by the New York Times and I wrote about it for First Things here). Our statement is also mentioned in the piece.
